by mark rutkiewicz posted 08/22/2010 Now that the lacrosse season’s over for most of our sons, how about doing something for yourself? Many of us have watched our sons play lacrosse over the past years with joy, and just maybe a little envy...
Well now is your chance to get involved in the formation of an ‘age/skill appropriate’ league that will give those of us who never had the opportunity to play when we were younger a chance to get out and have some fun. I am soliciting interest from people who may be interested in becoming founding members of an East Metro Men’s ‘Senior’ team/league…BEGINNERS WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED. The goal would be to have pick-up games once a week and/or play other men’s teams that may form around the Metro. Depending on the interest, we could form one this fall or start fresh next spring. Sunday evenings would most likely be the designated time, and location TBD, but I am open for input.
If you are interested in hearing more, email me back at
or if you are a Youth League Coordinator/Coach, please pass this on to your teams/parents so that they can email me with their interest.
Get some gear, grab a crosse, bring some Motrin, and check to make sure your health insurance is up to date!

MAHTOMEDI - The Mahtomedi prep lacrosse crew stayed as hot as the weather this past summer, and capped an unbeaten season in impressive fashion this past week.
Coaches Adam Moen and Ross Holt's team won all 10 of their games in Homegrown Lacrosse League play and in the playoffs. They finished the season with a thrilling 7-6 triumph over Hudson, Wis. in the playoff's title matchup at McMurray Field in St. Paul last Tuesday.
Mahtomedi led from the outset until a timely Hudson goal with 4:00 remaining knotted the struggle 6-6.
With the playoff championship and game on the line, it was time for someone top step forward.
Luckily, it was Mahtomedi forward Cam Inberg who did just that, and scored his first goal of the summer. The goal turned out to the game-winner.
"Cam came in one-on-one and beat their goalie," said Holt. "He was pretty excited after he scored."
Mahtomedi goaltender Joe Rutkiewicz and the defense held strong for the final minutes to secure the victory.
"We had a couple of early goals and felt good the way things were going for us," said Holt, who coached the team in the playoffs with Moen studying in Brazil. "They had a quick team and hung in there until they tied the game 6-6."
Mahtomedi pushed its way into the finals with a dominating 10-0 triumph in the semifinals.
"We had a lot of fun, it was a good summer," Holt concluded. "I think the team really came together. The guys listened to what we had to say, they were a good group to coach." |
